I made it. I’m here and working on a new life, a new love, a new career, a new trail of poetry madness….

 wish me luck, ok?

and drop me a line sometime….

Well, this is the post that I did not imagine that I would compose on here for a long time.

Fool that I am, I’m hoping that folks can get out to the Crimson Moon this coming Wednesday, the 6th of February.

I’m going to be moving away, and I’d like to see people before I go. I’m going to try to hit the stage
for the open mic on the night of the Klute’s feature at the reading, so please come, if you can! The Klute, of course, is certainly reason enough to get your behinds off the couch and come out for a night of poetry, drink, and comraderie – but, come also so that I can see you before I go.

I don’t know when I’ll be back again.

8 pm (doors open at 7:00) at The Crimson Moon

Someone Else Come & Take This Country; We Obviously Have No Idea What We’re Doing At All

After a brief, merely cursory look at the news today (check out here, here, and here), I’ve decided that I am now going to just hand over the United States (along with all of its citizenry) to whoever wants to come and take them: Iraq, Iran, France, Greenland, Iceland, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Venezuela – whoever; if any of you want to come and take this country and see if you can do any better, you have my official permission now to do so. Since, you know, we clearly have no idea how to conduct ourselves and take care of our own.

Even though all politics is meaningless, and politicians and warriors mean nothing to me because they refuse to acknowledge me, I think this man’s point here is valid.

In other, less exasperating and frightening news, there’s THIS:

I really hope that you all can make it to the POETRY SLAM that’s happening this Wednesday night, at 8 pm, at the
Crimson Moon Tavern (located at 6th & Union Streets) in Wilmington, Delaware! This slam promises to be a knock-down, drag-out, bloody verbal battle for the top of the poetic heap! I know that I plan on competing, and I plan on putting up a good fight and making the other poets WORK for their victory, and, also, a little “birdie” told me that there will be a couple of BRAND NEW FACES coming out to the slam to TEST THEIR METTLE! What else would you be doing on a Wednesday night? Watching TV? Clipping your toenails?

Where and when and how does all of this happen, you ask?

Here ya go:

Went to the reading tonight and “debuted” <- I have problems with the word to the left of the arrow – > 2 new poems, “Strong Little Bird” and “Paramecium”. Things went well, although there weren’t a lot of people there. We really need to get our asses in gear if the reading is going to make it into the next year thriving.

My eyes hurt; I think my glasses are messing up my eyes in some way.

So, the time is now 7:25 pm and I’m hanging out over at the home of my friends/slam teammates Matt, Hannah, and Nigel. We’re driving down to the Baltimore Airport at 2 am to fly off to Texas for the 2007 National Poetry Slam. I’m nervous, thoughtful, excited, fearful, happy, pensive, tired, hungry, and ready. This will be my first flight since my return flight to Delaware (which was in late August of ‘01).

I can’t wait to see old friends. I can’t wait to make new friends.

And to hear some tremendous poetry and have a good time in the best place to be in the state of Texas.
